Confusion
A wise, tall, bearded man once said about our great country "that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth"
Strange, how those words never resonated so much to me as they do tonight.
Do I bring this up because I am tall and bearded? No.
The reason?
Confusion.
As of right now, the popular vote is still being calculated, there are five states where the votes aren't in, and Obama has 51% and McCain 48% of the POPULAR vote so far......but that doesn't matter.
It seems our next President has always been elected FOR us, by the Electoral College...which, by the way, was the most lopsided I have seen in the four elections I have voted in.
How is this "for, of, or BY" the people when the people are quite obviously much more closely divided on the issue than people who, lets face it, aren't looking out for anyone but themselves.
Now, does that mean I am annoyed about Obama being elected?
Not at all. From the numbers he probably would have been by popular vote anyway, IF THE DAMN VOTE COUNTED.
That's the part that is annoying and confusing me.
I wonder what Abraham Lincoln, the man who uttered the words I opened this blog with at Gettysburg, would think of the Executive and Legislative arms of his beloved country if he were alive to see them today.
I have a feeling he would be incensed and disappointed.
Or maybe that's just another tall, bearded, and nowhere near as wise a man's thinking....
